Notifications

Stay updated on: study milestones, forum replies and likes, group activity, and new followers.

Overview

Notifications let you know when something important happens: you hit a study milestone, someone replies to your forum post, you're invited to a group, or a new user follows you. A bell icon in the app header shows your unread count, and you can manage all of your notifications from the full notifications page.

You can customize which types of notifications you receive in your notification preferences.

Getting There

Click the bell icon in the app header to see a quick list of recent notifications in a popover. For the full view, click "View all" at the bottom of the popover to open the notifications page.

Bell Icon

The bell icon in the app header shows a badge with your unread notification count.

Click the bell to open a popover with a flat list of your most recent notifications. From there you can:

  • Click a notification to mark it as read and navigate to the linked page.
  • Click "Mark all read" to mark every unread notification as read at once.
  • Click "View all" to open the full notifications page.

Full Notifications Page

The full notifications page shows all your notifications, grouped by date (Today, Yesterday, This Week, and Earlier) so you can quickly scan recent activity. The page title shows a subtitle with your total notification count across all filters.

<div class="my-6 rounded-md border border-border bg-muted/30 flex items-center justify-center aspect-video max-w-4xl"><p class="text-sm text-muted-foreground">Full notifications page with date grouping and category tabs</p></div>

Filtering

Two filters at the top let you narrow down what you see. The category tabs are:

  • All: every type
  • Study: daily goal and streak milestone notifications
  • Groups: invites, shared decks, and role changes
  • Forum: replies and likes

A read-status dropdown next to the tabs lets you switch between All, Unread, or Read.

Managing Notifications

Three buttons in the page header handle bulk actions: "Mark all read" marks every unread notification as read, "Clear all" permanently deletes every notification (with a confirmation dialog), and a settings icon opens your notification preferences.

On individual notifications:

  • Click the notification itself to mark it as read and navigate to the linked page.
  • Click the checkmark button on an unread notification to mark it as read without navigating.
  • Click the trash button to delete just that notification.

Unread notifications appear with a bold title so they stand out from the read ones.

Preferences

You can control which types of notifications you receive. Each category can be toggled on or off independently:

PreferenceControls
MilestonesDaily goal completions and streak milestones
RepliesWhen someone replies to your forum topic or post
LikesWhen someone likes your forum topic or reply
Group invitesWhen you are invited to a study group
Group activityWhen members share decks or your role changes
New followersWhen someone starts following you
ModerationAlways on. See Moderation notifications below

All user-toggleable categories are enabled by default. Disabling a category prevents new notifications of that type from being created. It doesn't delete existing ones.

Notification preferences are managed in Settings > Preferences.

Moderation Notifications

Moderation notifications are always on and can't be turned off in your preferences. They exist so you always know when something you posted was flagged, held, or removed.

Moderation applies to public text and images: deck names and descriptions, group names and descriptions, forum topics and posts, and uploaded images. Public content is checked by automated content moderation before it's visible to others, to keep the community safe and welcoming.

If your content gets flagged, it may be held for review or removed. When that happens, you'll receive a moderation notification explaining why. These always reach you, regardless of your other notification preferences.

What's not moderated: your own private flashcards, personal notes, and AI chat conversations. Anything not visible to other users is off-limits for moderation.

Tips and Troubleshooting

Not receiving notifications for a certain type? Check that the category is enabled in your notification preferences. All categories are on by default, but you may have disabled one previously.
